Local Homer ‘Heros’

Well not so much heros but good guys who paid their entry fees to race in the 2013 Homer Epic 100k Race.   The Epic is a winter race on the remote trails of the Caribou Hills near Homer, Alaska. Racers can either Ski, run, or bike as these men plan to do.

This Blog will follow these hearty souls during their winter training, or lack thereof, all the way through race day. Joe, Jay and Martin all have real jobs, families, pets, and a desire to better themselves in the eyes of their pets. We’ll see if they succeed.

The youngest of the three is Martin

We live at the END of the road in a small fishing town in Alaska - an unusual place to live and an even more unusual place to build a thriving cycling jersey business. Homer is nestled next to the Pacific Ocean and the Harding Ice field. Thick glacier fingers flow into blue sparking ocean, eagles as numerous as sparrows play and fight above our heads, otters role in the surf, and bears walk thru our garden when we go in for tea. We ride or walk to work each day like any one else but we might have to dodge a running moose or put a sign on the door that says GONE FISHING when tide is high and calm and there's room on someones boat. Every day nature brings us new experiences and reminds us to remember that somehow the tide goes out and the tide comes in every day on time and no matter how hard we work - we have no idea why.
